Everhome: Birth of the Gilded Hand Synopsis
Do you ever wonder if you have the power to change the world? Have you thought, "If I do this one thing, the world will be a better place!"? Well, Bea hasn't thought of it at all. As a young, talentless amnesiac, she has few desires other than to return home. But Bea must decide the fate of the world, when she acquires the keys to a door rumored to solve all the world's problems.
As seasoned adults looking back on life, young adults in a sea of possibility, or teenagers surrounded by the influence of our peers, we all have to make our own decisions, sometimes despite our friends. Being yourself isn't always easy, but it is an important aspect of life -- especially when the world depends on you.
Everhome: Birth of the Gilded Hand follows the winding journey of Bea, a driven young woman trying to escape the wilderness of the Outlands to return home. Her story highlights the impact one person can make in a community of people ready for change. It is also the journey of making friends while becoming an individual. In Bea's struggle, a 60-foot-tall man, a child-like forest creature, and Ky, an ill-tempered Outlander, eventually help her and join her cause.
Meanwhile, in the capitol city, Allus, a royal official, happens upon a series of writings left by his father which detail a royal conspiracy to hide the secrets of “Naisuk’s Song.” The song contains the only clues to unlock a door that holds the majik power rumored to heal the poor and end the drought in Everhome.
As Bea stumbles through the dangers of nature and society, the unlikely friends discover a way to unlock the mysterious power and find themselves in the middle of a power struggle – a secret war that began years ago. Their worlds collide with Allus’s in the capitol city, but when they begin to decode the song, dangerous factions stalk them – some opting to pressure them into adopting their cause and others seeking to take their lives.
Bea and her new friends rely on each other for safety. But Bea's friends have their own secrets. And when their betrayal is made known, the common goal that bonds them together as friends, tears them apart as casualties of war. The search for the keys to open the door carries them to the royal prison, a ghost town, a cursed valley and ends up costing the lives of those closest to them. But in the end, despite the motives of her peers and her own pain and fear, it is Bea who must make the final decision. Bea begins to see that her hope to return home may destroy the only home her world has ever known.
